Center for Violence Against Women and Children, School of Social Work
Site Supervisor: Sarah McMahon
The mission of VAWC is to strive to eliminate physical, sexual, and other forms of violence against women and children and the power imbalances that permit them. This mission will be accomplished through the use of a collaborative approach that focuses on multidisciplinary research, education, and training that impacts communities and policies in New Jersey, the U.S., and throughout the world. VAWC identified four components that constitute the Center including: 1) research; 2) MSW education; 3) professional training; and 4) community facilitation
Some ideas for field experience projects are:
1. Improving campus response to sexual assault prevention and response: This project focuses on two main goals: 1) assisting the various Rutgers campuses in strengthening their response to sexual and dating violence, and 2) coordinating a consistent response across all Rutgers campuses. The student would be collaborating with student affairs professionals on the various Rutgers campuses to provide support to their programs as well as engage in evaluation of their effectiveness. The student would be supervised by either myself or Dr. Rita Seabrook who is the Co-PI.
2. Campus climate surveys: This project involves the tailoring of campus climate surveys for various campuses both at Rutgers and at other campuses. The student would potentially be involved in the design, implementation, and/or analysis of the survey, and/or dissemination of the survey results. The student would report to myself or Dr. Rita Seabrook.
