The College of New Jersey - Dean of Students
Site Supervisors: Elizabeth Gallus
The Dean of Students Office at TCNJ is composed of the Title IX, Student Conduct, and CARE units. The CSA Field Experience intern in the Dean of Students Office at TCNJ will work with the Associate Dean of Students and the Case Management Specialist in the CARE unit. The CARE unit within the Dean of Students Office at TCNJ reviews all referrals to the Dean of Students Office for students who are in need of support, advocacy, or assistance for various personal, academic, social, and/or financial concerns. The CARE unit also reviews all referrals to the Dean of Students Office for mental health & wellness concerns, as well as disruptive and disturbing behavior. The purpose of CARE within the Dean of Students Office at TCNJ is to provide case management services to students. This includes support, advocacy, follow-up, resources, support services, and guidance to students encountering adversity and hardship. CARE works closely with TCNJ faculty and various other campus partners including Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), Disability Support Services (DSS), the Center for Student Success (CSS), and Equal Opportunity Fund (EOF). Many of these same campus partners sit on the CARE Team, which is a campus-wide collaborative effort to support more complex student concerns.
Possible projects may include:
Project One: Utilize Qualtrics to enhance and administer the current assessment of student learning outcomes following student CARE meetings with Dean of Students Office staff. Analyze & present data to identify areas of improvement for TCNJ’s Dean of Students Office operations.
Project Two: Create a comprehensive marketing campaign to advertise the Student Emergency Fund, established in 2017, to students and the broader campus community. Marketing will be used to increase student awareness of the fund and to improve fundraising efforts.
Project Three: Develop a comprehensive referral worksheet/handout to be distributed to students following a CARE meeting. This worksheet will be developed by gathering on-campus and off-campus support services and resource information.
CSA Field Experience intern may also create their own project reflecting upon their own interests and professional development needs.
